Scams

Anyone can be the victim of a scam, and unfortunately there are a lot of different scams out there. Scammers will try to reach victims through a range of methods, from letters landing on your doormat to WhatsApp messages.

There are things you can do to protect yourself, and the Citizens Advice website contains useful information on scams. Remember: if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Letters from Companies House

Recently, some NCHA residents have had unexpected letters from Companies House. This is the organisation that registers new businesses in the UK. The letters are real, but the businesses detailed in them are fraudulent. Scammers use addresses that are not their own to set up a fake company, with the intention of taking out loans.

If you've had an unexpected letter from Companies House, ring them on 0303 1234 500 to report it. It's important that you do this, in case the scammer tries to take out a loan using your address. In most cases, the scammer will not know your name or personal details.
