Housing for older people
We are building a brand new Independent Living scheme for Older People (ILOP) in Clifton, called Farnborough Court. So we've been to visit residents at Lilac Court in Clifton to find out what life is like for them.
We met Ivan, who has made Lilac Court his home since 2006. He soon noticed that the scheme was much quieter than where he previously lived. He lives independently with the added security of being surrounded by like-minded people in a safe and secure friendly environment.
The on-site scheme manager, who he describes as 'one of the nicest people he's met,' provides him with support and companionship and Ivan's neighbours are more like family. They check in on each other daily. “The communal spaces are nice too” he says, “and the monthly cooked breakfasts are a highlight for me, as we get together to socialise and enjoy each other's company.”
A lifelong plasterer, Ivan's work has taken its toll physically and he has experienced some health challenges. But his mobility scooter allows him to easily navigate the local area, especially the 'top shops,' in Clifton which he finds vibrant and thriving. One of his favourite local gems is Knights Butchers on Farnborough Road, known for their delicious sausages.
Ivan is a true Clifton lad, having witnessed the town's transformation first-hand. He remembers a time before the Clifton Bridge and the new housing development. Despite the changes, Ivan believes Clifton 'keeps getting better and better.'
Ivan sums up his experience of living at Lilac Court in Clifton as: “I love it here. It's perfect for a single person like me. I've found a place that feels like home, surrounded by a welcoming and caring community.”
