Welcome to our new Property Services apprentices

This July four new Property Maintenance Operative (PMO) Apprentices joined us at NCHA; welcome to Alfie, Joe, Leo and Rosie.

Following the success of our first intake of PMO Apprentices in 2022, our new cohort are embarking on their learning journey to gain a good foundation in basic core trade skills. Over the next year they will learn about plumbing, painting, joinery and plastering, before they’ll be able to choose which area they would like to specialise in.

Livia Williams, Assistant Director of Property Services, said: “We had a huge amount of interest in these positions, and the successful group came out on top after a thorough review of all the applications and an assessment day. At NCHA, we’re committed to investing in new talent and the apprenticeship programme plays a big part in our succession planning. We’re delighted to welcome Alfie, Joe, Leo and Rosie to NCHA as they get started in their careers.”

Support from Access Training

The apprentices will be attending Access Training one day a fortnight to receive practical training on the skills they will need to work in our customers’ homes, and then spend the rest of their time learning on the job with our Property Services teams.

Corrina Hembury, Managing Director of Access Training, said: “I’m really pleased to welcome this second cohort of Multi-Trades Apprentices from NCHA to Access Training. An apprenticeship like this is a chance to gain skills and experience, while earning money working at the same time. We’ll be giving the group all the practical training they need to make a real success of this opportunity and I can’t wait to see how they get on.”

Thank you to Nationwide Windows and Doors

The four apprentices are very grateful to have been gifted their first professional toolkits by Nationwide Windows and Doors, who kindly sponsored £2,100 for purchase of the kit. The toolkit includes all the basics they need to get started in their new careers and will prove to be very useful over the next year.

Paul Durrance from Nationwide Windows and Doors said: “I started my career as an apprentice joiner, so I’m pleased that at Nationwide we’re able to support young apprentices at the start of their careers. Having a good set of tools will help them to learn the skills they need to succeed, and everyone at Nationwide wishes them all the best as they start their new careers.”
