Supporting our apprentices

The support and encouragement we offer our apprentice operatives has been recognised by the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Apprenticeship Awards. 

Steve Whitaker, team leader, mentor and all-round role model has been shortlisted in the awards’ Mentor of the Year category. Working in our Property Services and Assets department, Steve works with many of our multi-trade apprentices. He helps them through the challenges of their course, and guides and encourages them towards success.

One apprentice describes Steve’s support: “Steve’s more than a mentor, he’s a leader. In an inclusive, welcoming environment, he builds confidence simply by believing in people. He inspires respect and this recognition is long overdue.”

The winner of the award will be announced at a ceremony on 3 October 2024. We wish Steve every success. 

Supporting on-the-job training

Offering on-the-job training to local people and supporting them towards qualifications is part of our dedication to social value. We’re really proud of the success of our apprenticeship scheme, and the people who work through the programme with us.
