Essential maintenance work: Friday 25 to Wednesday 30 October

Please note, many of our usual services won't be available while we move our systems to our new workplace in Clifton. What this means for you.

New, purpose-built supported housing

We’ve opened a new supported housing service in Nottingham, in tribute to a local social housing pioneer and our founder, Andrew Malone.

Part of our new development in Clifton, Nottingham, the supported living service called ‘Malone Terrace’ will offer 14 self-contained flats for people in need of mental health support who are also at risk of homelessness.

It will provide short-term accommodation with additional support. Specialist support workers will work with residents to help them learn essential life skills, and help them move on to more permanent, independent living. We’ve designed, built and will run the service, which has been commissioned by Nottingham City Council.

Andrew Malone, who sadly passed away in 2023, created NCHA in response to the homelessness crisis of the 1970s, and he was especially proud that we began to deliver social care in the 1980s. Naming our latest supported living service after him is a fitting tribute to his legacy.

Members of Andrew’s family and councillors from Nottingham City Council joined us to officially open the service and unveil a memorial plaque.

Diana Malone, Andrew’s widow, was delighted to see the scheme. She said: “It’s brilliant. He would be amazed; he’d be really pleased.”

Honouring Andrew’s memory

Paul Moat, Chief Executive, commented: “It’s a tremendous honour to welcome Andrew’s wife and family to our development. Andrew was immensely proud of the work of NCHA, especially the care and support we offer, so it’s fitting that we’re honouring his memory in this way.”

Sitting on the newly created Fairham Brook Drive, the two-storey building will offer fully furnished flats, with a social space and communal courtyard.

Built on a gas-free site, the homes have been built to energy rating ‘B’. Heating and hot water will be provided by air source heat pumps, and solar-generated power will deliver electricity. Green living roofs, vehicle charging points and thick layers of insulation ensure these homes will be warm and comfortable, minimising their environmental impact.

Malone Terrace forms part of our larger development off Farnborough Road in Clifton, designed by our in-house architects, Pelham and built by Geda Construction. This £3.7 million initiative was made possible through a collaborative funding effort between NCHA and Homes England, which aligns with NCHA's Strategic Partnership, aimed at delivering affordable housing across the East Midlands.

The former Nottingham College site will soon be home to our new workplace, supported living accommodation and 56 independent living flats and bungalows for people over the age of 55. The existing football and army cadette facilities will remain. Once completed in the coming weeks, it’ll be a fantastic new space for the local community to live, work and play.
