Meet our award-winning sustainability teams
Congratulations to our sustainability champions on winning several accolades at NCHA’s Better Lives Awards ceremony last month.
Chris Pryke-Hendy, Head of Sustainability, claimed the ‘Impact on our Business Award’, whilst our Retrofit team scooped the award for ‘Impact on our Homes and Places’.
These worthy winners were recognised for their cutting-edge approaches to improving the ways we support our customers in a meaningfully sustainable way.
During his three years at NCHA, Chris Pryke-Hendy has had a huge impact on our business. Leading by example, Chris has generated real impactful change and influenced attitudes in our communities, helping to make our places safer and environmentally durable for years to come.
He’s established and embedded a dynamic Environmental Sustainability Strategy that now sits at the heart of everything we deliver. Chris also crucially acts as a source of guidance and expertise on key organisational changes that shape the future of our practices.
On winning his award, Chris said: “I’m humbled to have been recognised by colleagues and the judging panel. The trophy is on my son’s bedside table and the video link made my mum cry.
“The truth though is that this recognition belongs to others. Every sustainability achievement at NCHA is the result of hard work by so many colleagues who commit themselves every day to tackling fuel poverty, cutting carbon and creating healthy environments for and with our customers.
“We can all be proud of the progress we’ve made so far, and of course, we’re just getting started.”
Making homes warmer for cheaper
Since forming almost two years ago, our Retrofit team has also made instrumental impacts when it comes to improving the quality, comfort and sustainability of customer homes.
The Retrofit team’s specialist expertise has enabled us to deliver complex energy efficiency improvements to our homes that have an energy performance rating (EPC) lower than band C.
The primary aim of their work is to make customer homes warmer for longer and cheaper by adding a variety of tailored insulation measures. Their enthusiastic, approachable and ‘can do’ attitudes make sure those works are completed in a timely and thoughtful way, bringing our customers with us at every stage of the process.
Sheila Evans, Customer Liaison Officer for Planned Projects, said: “I just want to acknowledge how rewarding it is to be part of our fabulous little team.
“Our retrofit works have such an impact on our customers’ lives, making their homes warmer and more affordable to heat – we get to share the journey through that process, meeting some amazing people as we go along. I’m just incredibly proud that we’ve won our award!”
Well done Chris and the Retrofit team!
